School friends

There’s something
so comforting
about meeting
old school friends
The memories
we share
Those anecdotes
from our common past
Stories that make sense
only to us

The pop stars
we crushed on together
The books we
borrowed from one another
The teachers that
taught us
And the classmates
we’ve long forgotten

We remember
each others parents
when they were young,
and each others siblings
when they weren’t
all grown up!
And most of all
we remember
the dreams we had,
the future we wanted so bad.

And when we meet again
it doesn’t matter
if those dreams
came true or not,
or whether that future
went in a totally
different direction.
What matters is
that you look at them
and you don’t have to explain
just where
you’re coming from.
